The Blade, Archambeaus' 50th! It all started 54 years ago. Even though they had many common connections they finally became acquainted in the summer of 1961. Lurley was working for Thal Construction and Judy was working at the Beverly Drug Store on Rugby Drive. She, a "soda-jerk," he, a local star football player, came in for ice cream. Both were heading into their final year of high school. They had their first date February 18, 1962, at the District Wrestling Tournament at the Waite High School Field House. Later that year he became a Central Catholic grad and she a Libbey High School grad. Both enrolled in Toledo University. He continued to be a football star for TU throughout college. Over the course of the next 3 years they fell in love and decided to spend the rest of their lives with one another. They married on July 2, 1965, with a reception at The Surf Supper Club. He played his final football season at TU in 1965 and then was drafted in the winter of 1966 with the Atlanta Falcons. Separated while joining the Falcon football camp during the summer of 1966, they both desired a bright future together. Although this Toledo native made it to the NFL only to be cut short of the first season, they both continued to work hard to build a life together in support of their new family. She worked as a cashier at Churchill's and then as a secretary at TU. He continued his education at TU while working second shift for C&O Railroad and third shift at DiSalle Plating. He also worked a lot of odd jobs including apartment maintenance. As a graduate assistant working on his master's in Biology, he taught at Robinson Jr. High until entering medical school in 1969 at The Medical College of Ohio. They had a baby girl in 1970 and named her Adrienne. In June, 1972, they had twins, a boy, L.J., and a girl, Rachelle. Nine days prior to their birth, he graduated med school as the class president of MCO's first graduating class. He continued building a successful career in psychiatry. She continued managing the household and caring for three small children all while he built a very successful career on not only his intellectual genius but also his kindness and compassion for the human experience. She always has and continues to be the brace to his professional and family declaration, providing him her everlasting devotion. She was and will forever be "the woman behind the man". Both, just past 70, continue to work in his private practice as they have done together for almost 40 years. Today, they enjoy both the chaos and the peace of the life that they have built together. HAPPY 50th ANNIVERSARY, Mom & Dad! Keep on keeping the love alive! Thank you for the life you have made and continue to give to your family!
