
The Blade, Striggow 60th Anniversary! Alvin Henry and Nancy Guion Ray Striggow of Temperance, Michigan are observing their 60th wedding on June 12 2014. Their deceased parents are Alvin Edward and Mildred Askins Striggow and Guion Henry and Geraldine Stalker Ray. A dinner for the original wedding party will be held at the end of June. A dinner party for the Striggow children and their families will be held later in the summer. Alvin and Nancy were married June 12, 1954, at Monroe Street Methodist Church, Toledo, Ohio. Dr. George Lackland officiated. The couple's children and their spouses are Valerie and William Ubbes, Hamilton, Ohio; Scott and Rachel (Munoz) Striggow, McComb, Ohio; Vicki and William Salisbury, Onsted, Michigan; Leslie and Chris Holdorf, Groveland, Florida; Lori and Wayne Pavlika, Temperance, Michigan; Jeffrey and Michelle Hagman Striggow, Long Lake, Minnesota; Glenn and Tina (Wood) Striggow, Lambertville, Michigan. The Striggows have 28 grand and 5 great-grand children. Mr. Striggow was a pattern maker in the auto industry and worked in the Detroit area for 25 years. His last job was at Seaway Pattern, Toledo, from which he retired in October 1994. He graduated from Whitmer High School, Toledo, in 1950. He was a gymnastic coach at American Turners-Toledo, where he is a 64 year member. He enjoys golfing, fishing, and taking care of their property. Before their children were born, Mrs. Striggow taught physical education at Ottawa Hills School, Toledo. She returned to teaching in 1971 and taught for Bedford Public Schools as a physical education and home economics teacher at the Intermediate and Junior High schools. She retired in 1993. Mrs. Striggow also graduated in 1950 from Whitmer High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 1954 at University of Toledo. In 1975, she earned a master of science degree in physical education from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti. She enjoys researching genealogy, cooking, traveling and visiting her children and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Striggow are also in charge of the monthly Whitmer Alumni luncheons that are held in NW Ohio and SE Michigan. The Striggow family taught gymnastic classes at The Turner Club and for Bedford Schools' Community Education program for several years.
